EBI are currently recruiting a bioinformatician into the European Nucleotide Archive (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/ena/) team, to deal with sample and experimental metadata. This is a community facing position for someone who is technically able that will help ENA to provide better support for this critical area in the development of our sequence data resources.

See http://tiny.cc/ejzs3 for further details.

From the ad: 'The ENA team seeks a bioinformatician who will work to improve the modelling, capture, validation, storage and presentation of such [sample and experimental] metadata with an initial focus on environmental sequencing studies. The post-holder will drive project-specific community group discussions through the hosting of workshops and e-discussions, with aim to model sampling procedures and sample processing and to develop standardised ways of describing sampling events. Using this input, the post-holder will specify internal ENA work flows and provide database requirements to manage and store these metadata appropriately. This work will be guided and motivated by an understanding of the analysis needs of the ENA data consumer and there will be some opportunity for the postholder to showcase in publications the value addition achieved from his/her work.'

Please feel free to contact me to discuss the position, but note that applications should be received formally - by following the link on the advertisement.

Guy.
